Appreciating nature through gemstones to decrease stress....

Thordur Jonasson is an Icelandic nature photographer who finds solace in nature's beauty and its quirks and looks at the unusual sides of landscapes and animals. He has infinite patience and curiosity to observe the natural world that we are privileged to live in and communicates his sense of awe and wonder in his artistic and nature photography (see greeting cards and other poster size photos, calendars, and books, and more of his nature photography at tinyurl.com/thordurkj). As for jewellery, some time ago I realised that obsessing over domestic and international news was becoming too stressful for me as for many other people and endangering our health. My other job is very stressful and white collar, so I decided to renew my passion for rocks and geology by joining it with some creativity. I come from a long line of Kalderash gypsies, and in the Po plain where they settled about a century ago, their job was still that of fixing copper pots. In my dad's village I am still the 'tinker's daughter' by nickname.
The beauty in natural stones is soothing per se, but actually making these tiny objects and finding a way to enhance their properties is most of the fun. I hope that customers may get some joy from these fantastic natural stones (I only use natural, untreated stones other than for cutting and polishing), and be persuaded that there already is magic in nature and our perception of the world, without the need for any additives. I have had the good fortune to live in beautiful countries because of my life and work. My jewellery is inspired by their natural scenery: among them the Italian Alps, but also my native Po floodplain, full of beauty if one only knows where to look and takes the time to do so; the magnificence of the first foreign country where I lived and learned, Scotland; the otherworldly landscapes of Iceland, my adopted country; and last but not least California and Mexico, places where true magic happens every day, despite many social and economic problems, and where I have had the privilege and good fortune to live. My approach is using natural, recycled and recyclable materials as much as possible, and thus showing my concern for our environment. This planet is all we have and we need to appreciate and preserve it for our sake and that of future generations. I hope TwoRavensBoutique&Photos can bring you some of the beauty and calm that making gemstone jewellery and nature photography gives us.
