Chunky natural charoite teardrops and purple and lavender faceted amethyst beads dangle elegantly from gold filled ear wires to create these stunning earrings. What makes them stunning, though, is the charoite drops. They are a rare gemstone only found in a remote part of the Russian federation along the Chara river (hence the name). The creamy purple and black swirls reflect the light as if they were moonstones or tiger’s eye, showing a property called “chatoyance” (from French “chat” -> cat because of how cats’ eyes reflect the little existing night light in a similar way). Mixed with transparent and translucent patches, these drops are nothing short of extraordinary.
